Our students will be wrapping up their formal Exploratory German experience this week! I hope they have enjoyed it as much as I have, and that they will continue to explore German on their own. Today we talked about what they will need to do for their final, which is Wednesday. We will only have a speaking final (no written). Last Friday, students practiced the sentence frames we have learned this term in preparation for their final. You can download Prep PDF below to help your child. Please note that students turned these in Friday, and received them back today. "Das bin ich!" ^above^ is the guidelines for the speaking test. Students need to choose 5 topics to talk about in German. We have gone over each of these over the last 9 weeks, and students have practiced all of them both in speaking and in written form. This will be a great climax to all they have learned this term. A few notes:
I hope everyone has a great week! Let me know if you need anything. Remind your child it's the last week to make up any assignments, as next week they will move to a different class. Blessings, Frau Bowman

We are quizzing on Monday about what we have learned using city vocabulary. Our quiz will see if our students met the following goals:
Please see the documents below and make sure your child has completed them. We have gone over these two docs thoroughly the last week and will turn them in Monday. The tasks listed under "Quiz am Montag" are all things we have done in class and can be found on these handouts.
If you notice your child has not turned in Mein Stadtplan (shows up as NTN in INOW), please look at the guidelines below and have them complete the task so they can earn a grade. Danke! We are getting very close to the end of Term 1. I am going to be sad to see each of these students move on to other classes, but I think we've had a great run. As always, let me know if you need anything.
-Frau Bowman Over the last week, we have started talking about things we like and don't like:
As well as what we like to do:
We will have a test THURSDAY, September 13th. Although it was supposed to be tomorrow, students do not seem ready yet, so I am postponing it. In order to be successful on their test, they need to:
Small-group testing will take place within the classroom again. Please feel free to email me any questions!
What a blessing it has been to hear these students speak German! They demonstrated what they have been learning by introducing themselves to the class. Each student stood up at their desk and gave a brief introduction without notes. I'm very impressed! Since then we have been learning how to describe someone. Your child has learned physical descriptors (height, hair color, etc.), as well as a few basic clothing items. As seen by their most recent quiz, they can identify a person based on a description and recognize color names. Students made a Reisepass (passport) this past week to record their achievements in German class (these are kept in the classroom until the end of the 9 weeks). Every time they achieve a new goal, they will get a "stamp" in their passport! This week, students will be practicing describing themselves. We have already started this with support, but I will ask them to describe what they look like and what they are wearing on Wednesday. Here are a few sentence frames for them to practice at home:
See below for some of our handouts from last week! Please note that the paragraph on the back of the Descriptions handout was a 10-pt grade. I have opened a Google Classroom to share docs easily with students. I have created a Remind as well to help you know when to remind your child to study for upcoming Tests and Quizzes. Vielen Dank! Please let me know if you need anything.

Guten Tag! Below I have posted what our students received yesterday. It has useful vocabulary and a test outline on it. Please note that the writing and speaking assessments (where your child will need to produce the language) is graded based on a Novice Proficiency Scale. See below: Novice High = A+ = Student speaks mostly in complete sentences. Novice Mid = A- = Student speaks in phrases, with an occasional sentence. Novice Low = B = Student speaks in words. I can't wait to see how our students do! They have been working hard! Best, Frau Bowman
Last week we finished off class with a game of "Simon Sagt" during our Fantastischer Freitag! Fantastischer Freitag is a reward for classes who stay on task during the week, and both of our classes got to participate last week. This week we started with a quiz. Please check your student's grades on INOW. If your student has a "NTN," this means the quiz has not been taken. Encourage your student to schedule a time with me to make-up their quiz before or after school. Their quiz was made up of two parts:
We have been working towards the following goals this week:
We practiced the sounds of the alphabet with mock spelling quizzes, used emojis to answer the question "Wie geht's," and practiced numbers using ages and math equations. Students received two handouts:
We will be testing next week to see how much these students have picked up so far. Viele Grüße, Frau Bowman
We are nearly done with our first week! It has been great getting to know these students and get an idea of what they are able to do. Besides establishing procedures, our goals this week have been the following (in German!):
We used TPR (Total Physical Response) to act out classroom commands. Below is a copy of a handout we started today to reinforce what we've been practicing. Other important vocabulary from this week is:
Ask your student at home if they can tell their name in German, and ask them what this letter "ß" sounds like! Viele Grüße! Frau Bowman
